Goalkeeper who unexpectedly ended up at "Dynamo" was of interest to FC "Kharkiv"
Former coach of Ternopil's Niva Yuriy Virt assessed the transfer of Ilya Olkhovyy to Dynamo, stating that the young goalkeeper was of interest to FC Kharkiv, previously known as Metalist 1925.
- Yuriy Mykolayovych, you worked with Ilya at Ternopil's Niva. The media wrote that Olkhovyy was of interest to both Karpaty and Dynamo, but in the end, he ended up at the capital club. How do you assess this transfer and what are your impressions?
- I reacted positively. With his work, Ilya deserved a move to a higher-level team much earlier. Even during my time at Niva, he was very seriously considered by FC Kharkiv (prior to rebranding - Metalist 1925). Their coaching staff representatives, including the goalkeeper coach, came to our training sessions, observed him for about a week, and were very impressed. I don't know why that transfer didn't happen back then, although everything was heading towards him moving.
It's quite natural that Dynamo and Karpaty were interested in him now. He is a promising goalkeeper, young, with room to grow, but he already shows a fairly mature game. So, this transfer didn't surprise me at all, - said Virt.
Last season, Ilya Olkhovyy played 32 matches at the club level, 11 of which were "clean sheets." The Transfermarkt website estimates the player's value at 150,000 euros.
