The advisor of the president of FC "Kharkiv" Mykola Pavlov summed up the results of the team's summer training camp, assessed the physical condition of the players, talked about the competition for a place in the starting lineup, future transfers, and the atmosphere in the team.
— First of all, what is the main outcome of these training camps for you?
— I would like to say that ingratitude is the greatest sin on earth. Both the players and the coaching staff understand this. We have a very ambitious president who constantly demands not only results but also good play.
For now, we cannot show our best, but there is a certain justification: in the last three matches, we played with mixed lineups. We had many young players, and I believe they are still very young for the Ukrainian Premier League. Therefore, the results may not be as successful, but there is still hope, there is still time.
There is a term called "season entry." I didn't come up with it. All teams do not enter the season quickly, something doesn't work out. Tomorrow we will watch the game between "Polissya" and "Dynamo" Kyiv. They started their preparation earlier than us, and then we can draw conclusions by comparing ourselves with them.
I think the amount of work planned by the coaching staff has been done. I emphasize once again: we had the strongest opponents among the Ukrainian teams currently on training camps. So I would like us to be patient and start evaluating our game and results after the first official match, which will take place on the first day.
— How would you assess the physical condition and tactical preparations of the team at the moment?
— If we use a five-point system, I think it's a four, maybe even a four with a minus. Not everything is going as the head coach wants at the moment.
I attend training sessions. I am only absent when they conduct individual sessions with players. But what the coaches demand, the guys are not fully executing yet.
To perform at a hundred percent, you need to be physically prepared at a hundred percent. I think there is still time for the guys to rest at home a bit, and then they will be in optimal physical shape. Our game and results will depend on this.
— In the recent matches, Mladen Bartulovich gave more playing time to many players. Do you already see the main lineup of "Kharkiv" for the new season?
— At the moment - yes. The ten field players currently playing are the best at the moment. I'm not an expert on goalkeepers. But this is only for today. What will happen tomorrow - I don't know. Even more so in a week.
— What are the strengths of "Kharkiv" at the moment?
— It's character. The guys are young, ambitious. They have character. But character shows when there is strength. Right now, they are a bit in a functional pit.
I think the character that "Kharkiv" had last year when the team finished fifth as a debutant is a very good result. To repeat and improve it, we need new players, and our department is currently working on transfers.
I think the fans will soon find out about new additions that will definitely strengthen our team.
— So can we tell the fans that there will be newcomers before the start of the championship?
— We want to make sure that by the 26th, when we start working in Kyiv, they are already in place.
— You mentioned strong opponents and not always positive results. Does this affect the atmosphere in the team?
— Yes, of course, it leaves its mark. When the team won the first game 6:2, the whole week was like I was flying on wings. I thought: here is the team.
And then, when we started playing against stronger opponents, I started having doubts. What to say about the young guys? I think it affects. And it affects a lot.
— How to get rid of this to enter the new UPL season in a good mood?
— If we win today, you see what a celebration it is here, how many people. It's almost like an official match for us. I think today's game will answer a few questions, but not all.
