Today "Shakhtar" will start their performances in the main round of the Champions League

Today is the day of the starting match of Shakhtar in the main round of the Champions League. The first opponent of the miners is PSV (Netherlands).

PSV footballers, like Shakhtar's, made it to the main round of the Champions League thanks to their victory in the national championship. In the 2025/26 season, PSV simply outclassed their opponents and outperformed the closest competitor ("Feyenoord") by 19 points - 84:65.

It was the 27th title of the Dutch Champion for PSV. Only Ajax (36) has won more.

Ajax currently tops the elite league table in the Netherlands after five rounds of the 2026/27 season. Amsterdam has 15 points, while PSV has 13 (2nd place).

Peter Bos has been leading the team from Eindhoven since 2023, under his leadership, the most expensive squad in the Dutch Championship (according to Transfermarkt estimates) has been assembled - with a total value of almost 300 million euros (284.45). For comparison, Shakhtar's squad is valued at 189.6 million euros on the same scale.

The most valuable players of PSV (according to Transfermarkt estimates) are 23-year-old forward Ricardo Pepe (30 million), 20-year-old attacking midfielder Paul Vanner (22 million), 29-year-old defensive midfielder Yerdi Schuten, and 26-year-old central defender Lutsharel Geertruida (both 20 million).

The team consists of almost 20 players with experience in their national team. And this is taking into account that in the summer PSV let go of a group of leaders and earned 104 million euros from transfers. Of which 82.5 million was spent on newcomers.
