Vice President of "Kharkiv" Yuriy Korotun exclusively for Tribuna.com shared his opinion on the information that 12 UPL clubs are proposing to reconsider the decision regarding the limit on foreign players.
– Is there really an initiative among UPL clubs to vote on a new limit on foreign players, which the clubs themselves adopted a few weeks ago?
– I am a bit surprised why you are calling me about this, as it was an initiative of the football club "Dynamo." We, like ten other clubs, simply supported it.
Overall, yes, it is true. Twelve out of 16 clubs, the majority, supported this proposal. We supported this initiative and signed the relevant letter.
– Meanwhile, the UAF executive committee has already approved the regulations based on the previous decision. Why did the clubs decide to revote now? What is the motivation specifically for your club?
– We are in favor of promoting Ukrainian players, especially during wartime. This is an absolutely acceptable position for us. There are no hidden agendas or fabricated motivations. We support the initiative to return to the mandatory presence of four Ukrainian players on the field.
– Therefore, did you not support the previous limit change?
– The situation was somewhat different then, it's not about who supported it or not - it was a general vote. This time we discussed everything, received a proposal from "Dynamo," and agreed to it. The other 11 clubs did the same. There is no conspiracy here. It's a simple fact: 12 clubs signed this letter, and four did not. It's a completely normal working process.
– If there is another vote initiated by the clubs, will "Kharkiv" vote to return (keep) the previous limit?
– Definitely yes.
– How crucial is this issue for your club? For the initiators like "Dynamo," it seems crucial. Are you really standing by this position or just ready to support the majority?
– I wouldn't evaluate this decision as "crucial or not crucial." I've already mentioned the reason: we believe it will be better if more Ukrainian players have the opportunity to play on the football field and develop, especially now when we see a certain outflow of Ukrainian players. Our position is mature and clear. There is no principle against anyone or for anyone, it's just a reasonable position in our times.
– Am I correct in understanding that last time when UPL clubs supported the limit change, the issue of Ukrainian players leaving abroad was not as decisive?
– I can't answer that question as I was not directly present at that meeting. I think it's more appropriate to ask the initiator of this letter - "Dynamo" about the primary reason for its appearance. It would be wrong for me to speak on their behalf. I have voiced the position of the football club "Kharkiv," - said Korotun.
This concerns the unofficial decision of the UAF that citizens of EU countries will no longer be considered foreigners in the Ukrainian championship. A provision will be made that three Ukrainian players must take the field in domestic championship games.
