Prime League - a new step in the development of elite women's football in Ukraine

The Ukrainian Football Association officially presents the Prime League - a new elite division of the Ukrainian women's club championship.

Establishing the Prime League is a step towards creating a modern, competitive, and recognizable women's football product that will adhere to European practices, unite the country's leading clubs, and promote further development of women's football in Ukraine through fair competition.

New competition format

In the inaugural season of the Prime League, eight clubs will compete, which have successfully passed the accreditation process, meet the requirements of the elite division, and have earned the right to participate based on sporting principles:

- "Kolos" (Kovalivka);

- "Kryvbas" (Kryvyi Rih);

- "Ladomyr" (Volodymyr);

- "Metalist 1925" (Kharkiv);

- "Panthers" (Uman);

- "Polissya" (Zhytomyr);

- "Sisters" (Odesa);

- "Shakhtar" (Donetsk).

The teams will play in a new format for the first time. The championship will consist of four rounds following a "home and away" system.

Each club will play 28 matches, totaling 112 matches in the season. The new format will ensure an increase in the level of competition and a greater number of competitive matches throughout the championship.

The base date for the start of the season is July 17, 2026. By the end of the calendar year, 17 rounds are planned, with the last one scheduled for November 20.

In spring 2027, the championship will resume from the 18th round, and the final, 28th round is scheduled for late May.

At the end of the season, the last-placed team will be relegated directly, while the penultimate team will play playoff matches for the right to remain in the Prime League.

Anastasiia Klipachenko, Head of the UAF Women's and Girls' Football Committee:

"The Prime League is not just a new name or format. It is a comprehensive approach to the development of women's club football: raising organizational standards, quality broadcasts, modern communications, and building a strong championship brand. We want every match to be an exciting event for fans, and every club to have new opportunities for development.

Previously, we had two leagues with no organic sports exchange between them, and the level of teams was quite different. One-sided games, predictability, demotivation of young players, and a halt in the development of stronger players - these were all problems we faced.

Now we will have three leagues. At the top is the elite product, the Prime League. The composition of participants is now balanced, each division will have healthy competition and conditions for growth. In such conditions, we can popularize women's football and create a product for fans. We believe that this project will be an important step in the development of women's football in Ukraine."

Andriy Shevchenko, President of the Ukrainian Football Association:

"The development of women's football is an important focus of the Ukrainian Football Association's work. Launching the Prime League is a necessary step towards creating a modern championship that meets European standards. Our consistent position is that competitiveness is a necessary component for development. This is the path we have taken in youth football, where we see positive changes. Now we aim to raise the level of play through competitiveness in women's leagues. The format with eight teams in the top division is the step needed for women's football now. We hope that fans will see many exciting matches, and players will raise their level."

Interpretation of naming.

The new name reflects the strategic vision for the championship's development and lays the foundation for its future identity.

The word "Prime" symbolizes the peak of development, the moment of maximum potential realization. This is where European women's football is now, with growing interest. Our Ukrainian women's national team is also progressing - the team competes in the top division of the Nations League and aims for the World Cup. Therefore, Ukrainian women's football is ready for a new qualitative stage of growth, ready to reach its "Prime."

We aim for the new league to be an attractive platform for clubs, players, fans, partners, sponsors, and the media.

The Prime League is a statement of ambitions for Ukrainian women's football and a desire to create the country's main football arena, where the best play, where new champions, heroines, and stories of Ukrainian sports are born.

New identity.

The visual identity of the Prime League is built on symbols that emphasize Ukrainian identity and the modern character of the championship.

The color palette is based on the colors of the State Flag of Ukraine, the shade of a football pitch, and the signature tricolor gradient, which will be one of the key elements of the new brand's communication.

A unique feature of the identity is the geometry created based on the shape of the central upper element of the Ukrainian trident. This element forms the basis of the brand's graphic system and will be used in all visual materials of the League.
