Vice President of "Kharkiv" Yuriy Korotun told when the idea to rename "Metalist 1925" arose and why they settled on this name.
– Mr. Vice President, from whom and when was the idea of rebranding the football club "Metalist 1925" first voiced?
– Initially, we discussed this issue with the club owners – Volodymyr Nosov (Chairman of the Supervisory Board, – ed.) and Bohdan Boyko (Club President, – ed.) – about a year and a half ago.
– Were there any other rebranding options considered?
– Actually, there were no other options. We immediately agreed that the new brand should be closely associated with Kharkiv.
– But there was already a team with that name in Kharkiv, right?
– Yes. And it's good that such a team existed. But we have no relation to it (FC "Kharkiv" existed from 2005 to 2010 and ceased operations due to financial problems, – ed.). Our relationship with that club is the same as if we were relatives.
– "Metalist" has a powerful history and a huge army of fans in Kharkiv. Do you believe that in the future, two teams will be able to equally share the sympathies of Kharkiv fans?
– I know how much Kharkiv residents love football, so I am convinced that each club will find its fan. Those who support "Metalist" will continue to cheer for their team. We have our own path and our own history that we are already writing.
