After the game against "Bochum," in which "Metalist 1925" sought to find a balance between experiments and stability, the team faces a new serious challenge - a confrontation with a representative of the Bundesliga, Borussia Mönchengladbach. This is one of the most titled clubs in Germany with a rich European history and a huge fan base.
This is already the sixth game of our team at the summer training camp, and each match gradually prepares "Metalist 1925" for the start of the UPL. Less than two weeks left until the official start, and it is important not only to play the main squad but also to find the necessary depth for a long season.
Opponent: "Borussia" Mönchengladbach - a stable participant in the Bundesliga, a club that in the 1970s won the German championship five times and twice reached the final of the UEFA Cup, winning the trophy in 1975. Currently, the team is in a process of renewal, focusing on attacking football. In the last five seasons, "Borussia" consistently finishes in the middle of the Bundesliga table.
In the offseason, the team has already played against "Erzgebirge Aue," a club that competes in the German Third League, and won with a score of 3:0. After facing "Metalist 1925," the "Foals" (this is the team's nickname from Mönchengladbach) will have preparatory matches against "Nuremberg," "Valencia," and "Brentford" before they start the new season at the end of August.
Head coach: for 2 years, the 46-year-old specialist from Switzerland, Gerardo Seoane, has been leading the club. As a player, he mainly played in his homeland, where he played most matches for "Lucerne," "Aarau," and "Grasshopper." He also has experience playing in Spain for "Deportivo" La Coruña. He ended his playing career at his hometown club "Lucerne," where he started coaching in youth teams, eventually taking over the main team of the club. Then he worked at "Young Boys," followed by the German stage of his career: first at "Bayer" and then at "Borussia."
Geography: Mönchengladbach is a city in western Germany, in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, with a population of about 260,000 people. The club is an integral part of the region's history and the culture of German football as a whole.
Transfermarkt: evaluates the current squad of "Borussia" at 157.85 million euros, which is over 140 million more than the assessment of the "Metalist 1925" squad. 15 "Foals" are players of their national teams: from Indonesia and Japan, through Cameroon, Armenia, Luxembourg - to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Austria, and, of course, Germany.
The most expensive "price tag" belongs to the player of the German national team Timo Klyndinst, who is valued at 17 million euros. Two million less is the value of the footballer from the German youth team Roko Raitsa.
Last season, the central midfielder Julian Weigl spent the most minutes on the field for Borussia - over 3000 minutes. Second in this indicator is Japanese central defender Ko Itakura. Closing the top three hardest workers is the aforementioned forward Tim Klyndinst. He also became the team's top scorer, scoring 16 goals in 33 matches. French forward Alassane Plea scored 12 goals, but this summer he switched from Borussia to PSV.
In addition to Plea, Austrian defender Stefan Lainer also left the team this summer. He was replaced by Kevin Diks, a player from the Indonesian national team born in the Netherlands. The team borrowed forward Haris Tabakovic from Hoffenheim and signed young central defender Jens Castrop from Nurnberg.
