Leonenko criticized the Ukrainian national team after the victory over Hungary

Former footballer of the Ukrainian national team Viktor Leonenko shared his impressions of the national team's victory over Hungary (1:0).

- Victor Yevhenovych, how was your first official match of the Ukrainian national team under the leadership of Andriy Maldera?

- We won - of course, it's good. But I wouldn't get carried away with euphoria. In my opinion, we have the weakest group. Before the match, Soboslai talked about a large number of injuries in Hungary. I don't delve into who is their main player and who is not. I evaluate what I saw on the field.

I didn't like Hungary. But our team, I think, liked it because it allowed us to play on counterattacks. We ran forward very well, although we didn't create anything, as always. The only real serious moment was with Krasnopir when he was one-on-one and didn't score.

- But Ukraine scored, and in the second half defended quite confidently.

- The second half can be noted: we played great in defense, we ran forward well. But why was it convenient for us? Because the Hungarians controlled the ball, and we counterattacked. Greetings to our beloved Kyiv Dynamo! After the break, the Hungarians didn't pose any special danger. There were shots, but not very dangerous. Essentially, Riznyk didn't have much work.

You need to start analyzing from the fact that by about the 20th minute we could have been losing 0:2. The Hungarians had two hundred percent moments: the crossbar and the episode when their player managed to miss the goal. It seemed like he was just stopping the ball, it would have gone in! Instead of being 0:2 down, we were winning 1:0. So for now, Maldera can be called lucky.

- So the opponent helped Ukraine play in a way that was convenient for them?

- Of course. From the first minutes, the Hungarians controlled the ball, got two great moments, and probably thought everything was going well for them. And we went on counterattacks. Moreover, they themselves started some attacks towards their own goal with their mistakes.

So we should thank the Hungarians: for not scoring and for letting us run. When the opponent attacks with the whole team, it's much easier to attack. Here, the coach is not really needed - just name the lineup.
